About this project
This project started with a commission for an equal opportunities project for Nsw Department of Premier in 2011, and was of the same description, Women working in non traditional occupations. The scope just covered some NSW state Government Departments. I was impressed both with the concept and the amazing women I met along the way.
The idea was to promote alternative careers to women, careers they may not have considered due to their traditional gender bias. I decided that there were probably a lot of careers outside the public service that required a bit more gender balance.
I just finished a chat with a business owner and they professed that a gender balanced workplace ran smoother and has less issues than in earlier days when there only men working in the business.
As a father of a young girl I see even at a very young age the concepts built into our society. "that's a boys job".
I am very quick to point out- there is no "boys job" or "girls job". There is just jobs. As a young person coming into the world you should be looking for things that inspire and enjoy.
All opportunities should be open to you regardless of gender.
This project was to promote alternative ideas and show some positive role models to women of all ages and backgrounds.
It is not about pointing a finger of sexism, but more extending a hand of welcome to everyone.
