Rockclimbing is a sport that appears quite intimidating to the uninitiated, poised high above the ground, clinging on by fingertips with only a thin nylon rope between you and the ground. Most facets of the sport are quite safe if done properly and within your limits.
According to this Roymorgan survey, rockclimbing is close to equal in male female participation, but climbing guides, the professionals who take weekend climbers into places they would not normally be able to get to, are much more imbalanced. Anecdotally it is around 90-10%.
