About this project
‘There are just jobs’ originally started as a commission for an equal opportunities project for NSW Department of Premier in 2011 - ‘Women working in non traditional occupations’. The scope was to cover a small selection of NSW state Government Departments.
Impressed both with the concept and the amazing women he met along the way, John further developed the idea to promote alternative careers to women, careers they may not have considered due to traditional gender bias in today’s society; there were probably a lot of careers outside the public service that required a bit more gender balance!
As a father to a young daughter, John sees, even at a very young age, the concepts of "that's a boys job" built into our society. John is always quick to point out- ‘there is no "boys job" or "girls job”, there are just jobs’. As a young person coming into the world you should be looking for things that inspire and enjoy.
The aim of ‘there are just jobs’ is to promote alternative ideas, showcasing positive role models to women of all ages and backgrounds; it is not about pointing a finger of sexism, but rather extending a hand of welcome to everyone.
Feel free to contact John with comments, ideas and other great examples.
